Waiting for our soundcheck, walked around and checked out the shops on Granville with the Danager, returned in time to see Scott's truck in the alley behind the club buried under some metal fences that were being used to gate off the construction happening behind the Commodore. Brutal. The Beat's soundcheck was amazing, and they're all super-nice guys.
The show was savage!! The funnest show we've played yet! A few small details, a few minor problems (my rented clip-on mic started on the fail near the end), but all-in-all, it was a strong show. Nothing major that could've gone better, nothing really we should have done differently. Big full room (of course: it was the English Beat show), a lot of ska-heads on the floor. If I had to Groundhog Day any day of my life, it might be that show.
English Beat killed it, of course. Legendary. At one point I was skanking on top of the merch table in the back. Amazing show. They're sounding great.
Hung out back stage for a while afterward, got to meet and hang out a little with the Beat guys. Told Dave my "Dave Wakeling" story about the time I opened for the Beat in Edmonton a few years ago with Mad Bomber Society. He laughed, said that sounded about right.
Delivered a bag of Burger King to an after-party my friend Jobi invited me to, turns out Jeremy randomly happened to know everybody there. Makes sense I guess. Pretty cool guy, well connected. Probably knows at least somebody at any given house party in Vancouver.
Couch surfed it, woke up next to a print of my friend Phil Alain's hanging on the wall. Cool that even out on the coast, in a house full of 20-something year-old musicians, Phil's art is happening. That made me smile. Lunch at the Reef for Caribbean eggs & rice. Met Ellis there, rad guy. Hopefully we'll cross paths again.
Skytrain to the airport (that's still so awesome to me), early evening flight back home. Can't wait to play the Venue on the 16th with Redeye Empire and Brave New Waves.
