So fun last night!! The Slackers are sick. One of the tightest bands I've ever seen. And monster players. Holy shit they were good.
We played the Rickshaw Theatre. Awesome stage, concrete floors and walls, theatre seats and old-school balcony. And it's right on the shitty part of East Hastings. I took my first back-alley East Hastings stroll yesterday to get to soundcheck before doors. If those walls could talk... I'm sure they wouldn't stop crying.
I had a lot of fun playing. The sound on stage was great, haha, but for whatever reason I could only hear the horns through the monitors on the far side of the stage. But I had a clip-on mic, so I just ankle'd it crosstown whenever I needed to make sure my playing was solid.
The Valuables played after us, they were awesome! I dig them lots. K'tang pulled double-duty and filled in for their 'bone player, haha, his poor chops. Cool that he got to play with the Valuables, he played really well too.
Slackers were phenomenal. So good. I saw them at Victoria Ska Fest last year, I've forgotten since then just how tight they are. Musicianship alone is huge, and their sound is Heavy.
Funnest show in a long time. And watching Dave Hillyard gave me some ammunition to hit the shed and grind it out for a while more. He's good.
